don't try to fight the rising sea
A non blurry for a change. i have been enjoying using flash at the beach lately to try and compensate for our harsh sunlight. This is the second last shot before the camera got a little too close to a wave. It is lucky i was not wading in the surf with a 1ds Mark iii or a D3. Excuse me while i sit back a dream for a little minute.

I love this shot because of it's unique point of view - down so close to the ground yet with the sky so prominent.
I think that you had a quiet word to god to set this one up Neal, that cloud formation is fantastic! I hope that the drowned camera is still functioning! You were mighty brave at that range! lol.
Are you working for the Aus tourist board now? mal
Aaaaaaaah Australia here I come, I want to be in the land where these beautiful images are taken. Impressive work my friend, impressive
Good to see you back! Hopefully the camera survived the bath.
I like the minimalist approach to beach photography. This looks so fresh I want to jump right in.
Superb!
Strange and beautiful harmony between the breaking wave and the billowing clouds, nev.
Ah! You just need a weathersealed/splashproof camera -- like the Olympus E-3
This is a fantastic photo. In fact, all of your picture here are so good I've added you to my buddies list! I found you using the 'random tool'. The water breaking and the clouds are just wonderful in this shot. The sand is a nice colour-contrast with the blue sky too.
Wow, what an incredible shot! It really makes you feel like you're actually there.
Lovely stuff, Nev! That wave crowned with the cloud gives some subtle white tonal variations.
great shot, feels like the waves are coming through the screen.
I think the flash has really worked, it gives a slight surreal feel to it. Good composition too.
Very nice shot. I like the POV and the clouds formation
Don't fight the rising sea - wait until it subsides again? I find this dunk-a-camera exercis very interesting - the object is to convince insurance that you had an accident and since the 300D is not on the shelve anymore it should be replaced by a 1ds Mark iii or a D3. You are a wiley one.
Excellent non-blurry - the cloud patterns are working with you.
The layers in this photograph are so powerful with that huge cloud so low...
Lol, that was a shock! My autopilot mode was expecting blur! This is pinsharp!
Love this abstraction of H2O, what would we photographers do without it? The flash on the foaming breaker makes it spectacular.
*sigh* this is a very well captured picture, reminds me of vacation, LOVE IT, have a nice weekend
very nice.good composition.
Superb !
Incredible shot. Very, verey nice. Yvon.
wow, amazing shot.
How very awesome, Neal! The clouds are kissing the waves and the world is laughing with joy!
Mmmmmmm, I could do with a paddle in there right now...its miserable here! Low angle works a treat Neal
Nev this is great shot I drop a camera in a lake they dont like it
Spooky...Thats what i imagine the 100 year wave to look like
Wow! It's wonderful, rich colours and very fortunate bunch of clouds too. Lovely.
Now ... tell me, please, that you didn't topple over backwards after taking this and spoil your camera (or trousers!)
Wow! This is truly magnificent. The clarity of the water against the clouds makes us country folk long to go for a drive to the beach! Great vision (POV) also Nev.
Thanks for the welcome too.
Boiling water. And steam. Crazy Australian weather again.
Great (courageous) angle...
What a nice wave ! And the colors are fantastic too Nev !
It's wonderful how the shot shows off both similarities and contrasts between the elements of cloud and water. The angle is daring and effective.
well captured
This is awesome shot Nev. Superb
Impressive opposition between clouds and see ! Bravo ! I Wish you a merry Xmas and happy new year - As I'm in vacation, I'll see you back in january !!
Happy New Year, Nev!
This is a stunning photogrpah.
Must have missed this at the time. Fantastic capture Neal, Happy New Year.
This is an amazing shot, Neal! The flash really helps to 'freeze' the waves. This is straight out of the textbook. excellent shot
strange, menacing composition- but lovely. well done.
I can safely say that taking a flash to a daytime beach shot has never occurred to me. I guess I'll have to pack something else in the bag now. Thanks
It's worked a treat
Good God. This is a beauty!
Great shot, all feels quite imposing but you totally want to be there. Nice body of work in general.
Wow! Wish I could do this...
