The Turn
Next shot in my landscapes at speed series. This was one of the later shots and unfortunately i missed a few opportunities to take more like this. No photoshop trickery here. This blur is all straight off the camera baby. (Not sure why this post has taken an austin powers turn all of a sudden). taken 9.34 am.

Great shot. Hope you were not the driver at the time.
nev: No i was in the passenger seat for this one. have not learned to how to drive, focus, pan and release shutter at same yet.
Are the colours in the foreground reflections from the windscreen? They give a nice effect. Just bought a new car so I might not try this shot, cause I guess you were driving.
nev: Yes Aus. i was going to process colours out but left them in. They are result of windows tinting and polarizing filter. For the sake of the new car i say leave this one for a little later.
feels like being on the point of a crash...
nev: It does give you that sort of feeling.
Guy who painted the road had the heebie jeebies - or the road is speaking with a forked tongue. Interesting circular blur you have in the grass verge. Methinks all evidence considered that you were driving through a pot hole. I thought we only had them in SA.
Great picture neal.
nev: Yeah i like the effect of the focus points and the motion and the circular type blur it has created. Thanks Louis
I feel sick Neal!... lol or has your camera been drinking?
really love this motion blur, super shot, very very effective. mal
nev: I know, you don't want to stare at it for too long. Glad you like the effect Mal.
Do you not get car sick when you are doing this? I know I would. lol! (:o) (so not a technique I will be trying.)
nev: NO i didn't get car sick Rosalyn which is good as i can't usually read in cars. Well worth a try though.
Yeh, Baby...that's different. I get some kind of sensation of being in a vehicle that is not entirely under control.
I also get a sense of nostalgia for the Australian country roads, from this snippet of narrow bitumen. Like your travel series already, Nev.
nev: I do like the out of control type feel to the shot Ray. Those wide open roads are beautiful especially some of the back roads we took near Guyra which i suppose are like the the snowys.
I can just imagine you balancing your camera on top of the steering wheel as you're going round the bend!
It's interesting how some bits of the picture are quite sharp (tree on right) while others are really blurry, any idea why/how?
nev: I was the passenger here ellie as my multitasking skills of driving and photographing are still developing. The interesting effect you are seeing is the focus points in action. I was panning the camera as well so for a fraction of a second the subject is focussed upon whilst everything else is moving or still whatever way you look.
A really fun image to contemplate. As Ellie mentioned, there are areas that don't seem blurred, and others that are quite blurry. In addition to motion, this image suggests a heat mirage.
nev: It is the panning that i was doing whilst taking the shot which was giving the points of focus. I guess in reality what we are seeing is a reduced area of focus.
It does remind me of a heat mirage, as Red Pen said, or something outta my dreams.
nev: it would be hot here in summer but was about 5 degrees C when we went past.
When the road starts looking like this, it is time to take a break
nev: Maybe it is time for a trip to the doctor. i see this all the time.
Wow ...It makes me dizzy ! Nicely done and very original Nev.
nev: Hold onto your seat Roland. thanks
Were you driving a Ferrari Neal ?
nev: Wish it was a ferrari Florence, then i could really get some good blur. the australian country roads are not always suitable for travelling at high speeds.
You should watch "The Lost Highway" by David Lynch - I think he filmed this road! Mike
nev: I like Lynch so must check it out. cheers mike
Nice one, the speed effect gives a surrealist picture !
nev: exactly what i was hoping for zeb. thanks
