Galaxian
Thanks for all the great insightful comments on the last post. I appreciate everyone sharing their posting thoughts. I have been a little busy so haven't had a chance to reply yet. Heres an abstract for a change. This is not an official competition but any guesses what it is.
Had a quick browse through Steves blog he had an interesting link to a london compositional photographer. well worth the look. update some pretty good guesses here. here is a better shot showing the piece of machinery that was used in the coral crushing process to make cement. Mal has come through with the goods and confirmed it is a large rotary drier. cheers Mal and thanks to all players. better shot here http://www.hassell.com.au/projects/proj358_0.html

I've no idea what it is, but it makes a nice abstract.
nev: it is a little obscure so it may difficult to guess.
It must be a barrel of (nasty) laughs
nev: Nasty barrel indeed Martin.
Brain is too tired, I'll have to come back. Lovely abstract though.
nev: thanks jose. it is probably too obscure to be guessed but worth a try anyway
Looks like the thingy that they roll the cricket pitches with. The gearwheel shadow does not fall into place, except if this is a motorised version of the roller. One pin has gone missing.
Second try - the spaceship Galaxy's defenses from the outside. Third try - rows of citrus trees photographed, printed on a carton that is bent to provide the rounded look, photographed again and pp'ed to give it the serated edge on the left. Last try - a close-up of neal's chin showing some stubble from all the lazy days. You seriously believe that i can believe that part of being too busy? Great abstract
nev: Pretty good one Louis. Galaxy defenses are what it is. Then again it could have been me making cartons in my free time. Wife laughed at chin stubble bit. thanks for your many comedic attempts Louis. It was part of coral crushing machinery to make lime at an old cement works. A better photo here http://www.hassell.com.au/projects/proj358_0.html
great intriguing abstract... and I have no idea about what it might be...
nev: it was a drier at a cement works that was crushing lime from coral. thanks for guessing minelmio
Easy - it's a close up of a rather weathered aerating garden roller, sitting in the sunshine next to a wooden fence which is casting the serated edge shadow over it. Am I right??? PS. I wrote this before I sau Louis's comment. PPS. I like the photo too!
nev: pretty good guess Steve. it was part of a coral crushing process that took lime from coral. better photo link above.
Oh I love this - the dreariness of the colours, the colours, the shapes. Yup, love it! Looks industrial.
Lisa x
nev: yeah it is a large part of a old cement works that has been converted to parklands.
in fact...it looks like it could be the deathstar from star wars!
nev: Correct answer Lisa. almost. wish it was the death star. thanks for playing.
nice particular nev
nev: thanks nicola
Can't guess what it is, but it's really nice and artistic Nev !!!
nev: i have updated with a link roland. it is an part of an old cement works which is now parklands. thanks
cricket pitch roller thingy? Oh! just noticed Louis said that! lol
I like the shadows of the gear teeth, the light looks very natural and warm, was it a low setting sun? Great abstract thingy, whatever it is! mal
nev: Any one would think louis had a thing for sport. it was a low setting sun. part of a big coral crusher at a redeveloped cement works. better view here http://www.hassell.com.au/projects/proj358_0.html. thanks for the drier addendum. cheers mal
i think i dont want my foot under this thing....looks very painful to me....
Great capture though! Petra
nev: looks like a good foot massager so long as you dont get your leg stuck under it. it is part of an old cement factory petra. thanks for playing.
I thought it was a door from a historic building on first glance, but the curve is curious - looking at the comments already posted, people seem to be going for a soil airator-y-thingy. Good photo too.
nev: Better photo link here. http://www.hassell.com.au/projects/proj358_0.html
part of redeveloped cement works. Mal has confirmed it is a rotary drier. cheers
Well without being tempted to read all the above and having visited some old wreaks yesterday with a lovely bunch of Shutterchancers, I am going to plump for the hull of a wooden boat. Probably totally wrong but hey, I love challenges like this
nev: great guess and wish it was an old wooden hull. don't see many of those around.
nev: i will post another soon. have a few more abstracts in archives. might turn it into a competition next time. cheers jose
Very nice abstract even if I don't know what it is ! (until I saw the response !)
nev: its aliens zeb. run now!
