Crystals
A shot of Crystal Cascades in Cairns. For many years this was a well kept secret from tourists to Cairns. I think the visitor numbers have risen so much and when publications like Lonely Planet guides published hiding spots like this, it receives so many more visitors now.
Crystals is one of the places Cairns locals go to escape the heat in summer. In the rainforest it is always about 5 degrees cooler. As a teenager we would ride our bicycles about 15-20 kilometres in the 30 + degree heat Celcius with 80/90 percent humidity and sit in the cool mountain water. Even with hundreds of people there you could usually find a quiet spot in natures jacuzzi with no other neighbours. Time enough to cool your body temperature down ready for the ride home again. This shot could have done with a bit more processing but i kinda like it how it is.

lovely!
nev: thanks bridge
Nev, I love your water shots. Especially this one. It's perfect the way it is, no more pp is needed.
nev: Glad you like it Kay thanks
It looks like a very beautiful place. A beautiful capture.
nev: it is a ripper of a spot kate thanks
Very inviting place. I like the star shaped curned water in the pool. How on earth did you get the vegetation to hold still for 15s? Grass always moves even if there doesn't seem to be any wind.
nev: The vegetation was stiffened plastic ones that I brought in especially for the shot hehe.
I like how it is too. This is very nice. You have quite a view to come to. Nicely done.
nev: i don't get there very often but it is a wonderful spot. thanks chad
Good time for exposure on this one Nev. Water like milk !
nev: I bet you are thinking the cows are pretty big too hey florence.
It feels cool just looking at this, Neal. What a splendid memory for you. I like that!
nev: its is always a great place to visit ginnie. you really feel like you are in the tropics there.
what a beautiful place! and you have captured it so well
nev: thanks paul. this is the end of the track. we used to go further up the mountains to go swimming as there were usually less people again.
Great image of a stunning place. It seems a pity that other folks get to hear about wonderful little secret spots like this, when you could have it all to yourself, Nev.
nev: There are still a few other hidey holes ray that the tourists dont always find.
I get the same feeling as for the beach of your youth, as if whilst taking it you're re-living a previous moment. Lovely image. Some places we just want to keep for ourselves.
nev: wish we could keep them to ourselves but that is just selfish i suppose. i didn't see many locals the afternoon i was there. all hire cars full of european touristicos
Sounds a wonderful adventure as a child Neal, good work on this.
nev: yeah again we had a real sense of independence as kids as i am sure that you did too chris. thanks
Very beautiful.
nev: thanks lilith. glad you are coming back to life
Would love to see this place in real Neal...great capture using that shutterspeed...
Petra
nev: its just a plane ticket and a deep pocket full of cash away petra. hope you have recovered from your tour.
This photo is really good and would look great on a lounge wall. The only big thing wrong with it, is that it's not real :sob: I wanna be there!
nev: Thanks steve i might get it printed a bit larger and see how it looks. i suppose once you have sold the kids for medical research the world is your oyster.
It looks absolutely beautiful, and somehow it also looks cool. Would love to go there.
nev: it is one of the many beautiful spots in Cairns ellie. As they say in the tourist brochures 'beautiful one day perfect the next' (i managed to get these shots in between rain showers.)
well done nev, very very nice. The water does it for me
nev: the falls look deceptively small from here atunbi. that is a full length tree agasint the falls.
Perfect... really beautiful Nev !!!
nev: appreciate that roland thanks
15 sec? vvvveeeeeeryyyyyy good!
nev: it would have been longer nicola if i had remembered to set the iso back to 100.
flippin heck mate, this is gorgeous! Cairns is not the only thing that is hot around here at the moment, your photography is to! mal
nev: nice of you to say that mal. the old box brownie is not doing too badly i think.
You have a very nice capture. I like your choice of shutter speed.
nev: thanks for your visit and comments daniel. much appreciated
could do with a swim in crystals right now.
nev: Hope you made it there bud. what living on the equator not hot enough for you.
I'm amazed with your shutterspeed ! Wow !!
nev: All with the help of filters zeb. thanks
this is great, nev....i wish i could make the fstop large enough on my camera to get a 15s exposure during the day. very nice!
nev: i think you can get a filter adapter for your camera alex which may enable you to put a polarizer or neutral density filter on it which may slow things down a little for you.
Is a lovely and calm image. I like
What a gorgeous place! Perfect exposure on these cascades. It's too bad we can't appreciate it to it's full extent but beautiful photo anyway. Great detail!
