Boat Ramp closed until further notice
Well another wivenhoe dam shot. As you can see this boat ramp should be under water but there is nothing but grass at the bottom. Yesterdays shot was taken at the bottom of the boat ramp and to the right. i am unsure about whether i should have posted the mono or the colour one so mono it is. The clouds look better in the mono.

Sure looks more like an undulating meadow than a lake, Nev. The clouds are great, again! At first glance, I dislikd the mesh in the picture...after studying it for a while I realised it is an important part of the story.
nev: I think the colour would have given the photo a bit more context. what the photo does not show from this angle is that if you wanted to just drive around the mesh you could but you are still not going to get a boat in the water.
Clouds always make a picture, Nev, especially when they are accented. This is a lovely photo.
nev: thanks kay. i think i should have croped the bottom to emphasize the top of the photo more.
This certainly dials up the desolation, but the color of the cracked earth in yesterday's shot drives home the drought aspect more strongly. This is a beautiful shot, but it doesn't scream 'dry' like the previous one.
nev: i kinda regret not posting the colour now. there is always another day though thanks martin
This is simply beautiful, the tones work for me.
nev: thanks dotun
An original framing, and a strange grey - sepia color... Very nice Nev !
nev: strange is what i like roland. thank you
As far as the shot goes, Neal, it's perfect in B&W. But for the documentary related to drought, the color would have probably been more dramatic, like yesterday's. So I guess it depends on what you were trying to say with the pic!
nev: thanks ginnie. don't know what i was saying
Mono works great but now having re-visited the previous shots, perhaps toning in burnt sienna colours would allude to the scorched land better? This is such a beautifully composed image and the clouds are amazing.
nev: thanks jose. although running them as a sort of theme i was more thinking of how this boat ramp looks so out of place with it environs from this angle. I thought going to mono made the ramp form part of the landscape.
Lovely shot! Agree with Ginnie - the grass at the bottom would have been dramatic in colour...but this is very nice.
nev: thanks bridge. the grass was a bit non descript but the colour does give it more context and depth.
This scares me as Eastern canada has been receiving less and less rain each year. Good photo for such a dramatic situation.
nev: The worlds weather is something we should all be a bit more worried about i think. thanks mary
Global heating?
nev: i think so eduardo. in australia like many countries we are experiencing a drought. thanks for your comment
There's real grittyness to this shot for me Neal, good work. You should get some of these into a photo-library given the interest in global warming issues.
nev: Very kind words chris. i did not venture far round the dam. Apparently there are all the old houses that went under when the dam was first flooded that are now reappearing and also many dead bovine in some areas too. Maybe i should go for another drive.
interesting shot... nice tones...
nev: thanks minelmio
Nice tone for your picture but I would have prefered a higher resiolution Nev. This composition will have deserved it.
nev: i didn't do much processing florence really just a bit of mono conversion and sharpening but i think i know what you mean. I now think the colouring is a little weak. thanks for your comment
colour shmoller, perfect in this moody toned b/w Neal. The only thing that surprised me about yesterdays image was that you had chosen to go with colour.
This gets that bleak baron message home loud and clear. top shot. mal
nev: yesterdays shot was a little more difficult to accentuate the layers in mono. you know how much i try and see in mono i always keep turning that colour button back on again. thanks mal
Love it Neil...looks like you glued parts of different photo's together...if that makes any sence..
Petra
nev: I went through a whole bottle of paste trying to get the bits to fit together Petra.
Like the grain you seem to added. The plastic road block adds an extra dimension. Nice one Nev.
nev: No grain added Daniel. Maybe i need a megapixel upgrade.
The clouds make this picture for me, above a rather bleak and desolate landscape.
I think a colour picture would 'tell' a completely different story, it'll be interesting to see.
nev: Maybe a weekend is a good time to post the colour. thanks Ellie.
This choice of colortone is really clever - Nice composition too - Idea of infinite !!
nev: The open expanse is what i was trying to emphasize. thank you
two-tone- very subtle. Nice one.
nev: The colour was a little subdued. thank you jamoula
